You are responsible for finding and securing a facility where you can complete qualifying hands-on experience. You apply directly to employers or volunteer opportunities and follow the facility’s requirements. TSP provides planning and outreach guidance and can support coordination after you establish a facility connection.
Facilities decide whether to accept, hire, or place a student. TSP does not guarantee an externship, a job, a facility placement, or completion or acceptance of your hours. HSPA determines whether your experience meets CRCST certification requirements. Online coursework and the optional virtual skills kit do not replace qualifying hands-on hours.
The online program is available to students living in the United States, not only Massachusetts. International enrollment is not offered. You are responsible for arranging qualifying hands-on experience and checking the requirements of facilities and employers where you plan to work.
The required HSPA Sterile Processing Technical Manual, 9th edition, and accompanying workbook are not included in course tuition. Purchase them directly from HSPA; book prices and shipping are set by HSPA. See the required books and current pricing.
Certification exam applications and fees are separate and paid to the certifying organization. The virtual skills practice add-on and mailed instrument and practice-supply kit are optional and cost $497 extra, including U.S. shipping. The kit is not required for the online program and does not replace qualifying hands-on hours.
This program is for people new to sterile processing or anyone who needs a structured foundation, practice, and guidance. Be ready to read assigned material, study consistently, complete coursework, and communicate when you need help.
Already know the fundamentals? The separate Exam Prep Bundle provides focused exam practice. For standalone resume, interview, outreach, employment, or hands-on-hour strategy, explore Career Launch.
Build a foundation in safe sterile processing, instrument care, sterilization, and professional practice. The program connects essential terminology and standards to the work performed in the department.
Full lessons, assignments, and the detailed learning sequence are available inside the course after enrollment.
Practice exam-style questions with answer explanations, strengthen recall with interactive flashcards, and see which areas need more attention. Both CRCST and CSPDT study paths are included. Your study progress is saved to your account.
The full practice materials and learning activities are available inside Study Hub with the appropriate access.
Certification pathways
Both certifications can lead to employment in sterile processing. The main differences are eligibility, hands-on requirements, and renewal. Start with the requirements of the employers where you want to work.
HSPA and CBSPD are the certifying organizations. CRCST and CSPDT are the credentials you earn.
Successfully complete The Sterile Process’s Self-Paced Sterile Processing Program with a passing course grade of 70% or higher to satisfy CBSPD’s training-course eligibility route for the CSPDT exam. The Sterile Process will provide your certificate of completion and grade documentation for your CBSPD exam application.
Submit that documentation with your CBSPD application by its deadline. CBSPD reviews eligibility and awards certification after you pass its exam. The Exam Prep Bundle alone does not provide this course-completion credential.
Review local job postings for CRCST, CSPDT, HSPA, or CBSPD. Some accept either; others name a specific credential. Match your choice to those requirements.
This route may fit when employers request CRCST and you can arrange qualifying experience. Secure a realistic hours plan before taking the provisional exam.
This route may fit when you want to qualify through course completion and your target employers accept CBSPD. You can pursue certification while continuing to build hands-on experience.
Both pathways can support applications for sterile processing jobs. For example, a Kaiser Permanente sterile processing posting accepts certification through either organization. Hiring also depends on experience, demonstrated skills, and the facility’s requirements. Neither credential guarantees a job.
Our program supports preparation for both exams, plus resumes, interviews, and a plan for hands-on experience. Your course-completion certificate documents your education; HSPA or CBSPD awards your professional certification. Exam applications and fees are separate from program enrollment.
See an employer example (requirements and availability may change)Use instructor messaging for help with lessons, assignments, or concepts. Career Readiness includes resume support, interview preparation, outreach, and a practical plan for employment or qualifying hands-on hours.
The Community Board includes non-certified and entry-level job leads posted as they become available. Apply directly and check each employer’s requirements. Students usually pursue hours through employment or approved volunteer opportunities; employers and facilities decide hiring and placement.
After successful program completion with a course grade of 70% or higher, TSP provides your certificate of completion and grade documentation for CBSPD’s training-course eligibility route. Your course certificate documents education; HSPA or CBSPD awards professional certification. Recommendation letters may be considered for well-qualified students based on participation, professionalism, readiness, and completed coursework.
Regular tuition is $497 paid in full or three monthly tuition payments totaling $697. $232.34 today, then $232.33 monthly for two more payments. Total: $697. Payments stop after the third payment. The tuition plan is not a cancel-anytime subscription. Klarna and Afterpay depend on checkout availability and eligibility. There is no separate application fee.
The optional virtual skills add-on is $497 extra, paid in full with your first payment, even when tuition is on a payment plan. It includes the mailed instrument and practice-supply kit, U.S. shipping, guided virtual practice, and instructor feedback. Select it at checkout. Virtual practice does not replace required hands-on certification hours. See virtual skills details.
Course enrollments purchased using a promotional discount or discount code are non-refundable, except where required by applicable law. Other refund requests are reviewed case by case. The regular $497 pay-in-full price and $697 tuition payment plan, without a promotional discount, remain subject to case-by-case review. The promotional rule applies only to discounted course tuition, not full-price add-ons, and only where disclosed before payment; earlier purchases keep their original terms. Send policy questions or other refund requests in writing to admin@thesterileprocess.com. Case-by-case review considers enrollment status, access, materials, services, and payment activity. Read the refund policy and enrollment agreement before payment.
